Some information about the prototype:

The tank locomotives of the TKt48 class of the Polish State Railways (PKP) were an important part of passenger and freight transport on the mountain routes of the Giant Mountains and the High Tatras between the 1950s and 1980s. The locomotives were built from 1950 to 1957 at the Fablok and Cegielski factories, with 191 units delivered to the PKP. Initially intended for suburban service, the TKt48 proved unsuitable for this purpose due to a lack of power reserves. Thanks to their high adhesive weight, however, the locomotives became true all-rounders in mountain service. Their top speed of 80 km/h in both directions revolutionized operations on branch lines. As traffic volumes declined and many branch lines were closed, the locomotives lost their operating territory and were retired and scrapped by 1989. Fortunately, more than a dozen locomotives were preserved and can still be admired today as museum and monument engines.

Our prototype: TKt48-93, revision date 29.12.1979, Regional Directorate of the State Railways Południowa, depot Nowy Sącz.
