About the Prototype:
From 1969, it was the turn of the class 03 steam locomotives to be made fit for further years of service as part of the reconstruction programme. The main focus here was on the general overhaul of the boiler with mixing preheater, revised standing boiler and ash pan. The engines were also given a new pump arrangement, the characteristic mixing preheater system on the smoke chamber and a new roof on the driver's cab. The locomotives reconstructed in this way remained in service on long-distance services for a good decade.
Our prototype: Steam locomotive 03 2128-1 Deutsche Reichsbahn, Rbd Halle Leipzig W., last inspection on March 19, 1975
