About the Prototype:
Between 1961 and 1994, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) operated a small fleet of true rarities with their class 1067 electric locomotives. Only a single prototype and four production units were ever built. They featured a technical specialty: an electro-hydraulic drive system. Built by Jenbacher Werke, these locomotives had a central cab and were used for shunting operations. They were seen in either fir green or blood orange livery. The diesel-inspired drive concept proved prone to technical issues, which led to the end of production. The last operational unit, 1067.03, was officially retired on October 1, 1994. Today, two of these locomotives can still be admired in railway museums in Knittelfeld and Ampflwang.
Our prototype: Electric Locomotive Rh 1067.01 ÖBB, circa 1979, assigned to the Selzthal depot
