24.09.2024 DB trainees as guests at PIKO
On 24 September 2024, PIKO received a visit from a large group of DB AG trainees from Dortmund. The occasion was the ‘Railway apprentices against hate and violence’ competition, which DB AG has organised annually since 2000. The aim of this event is to continuously set an example of tolerance, respect and solidarity and thus familiarise young employees with the company's values at an early stage.
As part of this year's award ceremony, an additional audience award was chosen by means of a live vote. The winner was the group of DB Fernverkehr trainees from Dortmund. As part of the project, a Father Christmas trip was organised for children from the K41 Löwenherz oncology ward at Dortmund Children's Hospital using two Christmas-themed IC carriages.
We at PIKO are very proud of the achievements of the railway trainees and have implemented the wagons of the project as an attractive H0 wagon set and as garden railway IC wagons for this year's autumn novelties.
It was a great pleasure for us to welcome the trainees to Sonneberg this week as the crowning glory of our collaboration. The group, led by training manager Mr Schumann and accompanied by Mr Hingst and Mr Wittmann, arrived in Sonneberg by train at around 12.00 noon. A shuttle bus took them to the PIKO premises, where they were welcomed by the PIKO trainees, among others. After a hot lunch, the railway trainees gave a brief presentation of the project. The group was then given an insight into the work at PIKO during a tour of the factory. In particular, the large amount of manual labour that goes into every PIKO model was met with great fascination.
Of course, a visit to the PIKO flagship store was a must on this occasion. Happy, with many new impressions and one or two new favourite models in their arms, the Dortmund team set off on their return journey at around 16:00.
We would like to thank them for the great day and are already looking forward to further projects from the railway trainees.
