29.01.2014 Model of the Year 2013 – BR 64 Steam Locomotive DB III #37210

At the end of every year, Eisenbahn Magazin runs the popular poll for the Model of the Year title. The results are announced during the so-called, "Alba-Evening" on the eve of the opening of the International Toy Fair in Nürnberg, Germany. For 42 years now the leaders of the model train industry have congregated in the venerable rooms of the Transport Museum. Everyone with a name in the industry meets this evening and enjoys the conversations that follow the award ceremony.

Alf Teloeken, publisher of Alba Publikationen, gives the opening address (Picture 1). The attendees listen intently (Picture 2) prior to the awards being presented.

The PIKO team is especially delighted that the BR 64 steam locomotive won the award for the G-Scale (1:22.5) Model of the Year 2013 (34.3% of votes) beating the Allegra by LGB, in second place, by a fair margin.

Dr. René F. Wilfer receives the certificate from Alf Teloeken, publisher of Alba Publikationen (Picture 3).)

We wish to extend a big thank you to all the PIKO customers who voted for this amazing locomotive. This award inspires us to continue to release great products for garden railway enthusiasts like our new 2014 items.

Unfortunately, the H0 Scale BR V200 DB diesel locomotive, the TT-Scale BR V180 DR diesel locomotive and the H0-Scale BR 130 DR diesel locomotive only achieved second place in their respective categories. Nevertheless, we are delighted that these 2013 models were well-received by model train enthusiasts and made it to the podium.
